Luka Doncic’s Preseason Bang

Luka Doncic has started his preseason prep…with an injury! The Dallas Mavericks star caught a left calf contusion during workouts this week, which means he’ll be missing the Mavs' preseason opener against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.

However, the team assures us it’s nothing serious, and Luka will be re-evaluated in a week. No worries though, he’s expected to be back in full force for the regular-season opener against the Spurs on October 24. Deja vu? You bet.

Luka had a similar calf injury last preseason in Abu Dhabi but he was ready for the season opener, he’s a fast healer, so fingers crossed he’ll shake this off just in time.

Karl-Anthony Towns Waves Goodbye to Minnesota

Meanwhile, over in New York, things are getting real for Karl-Anthony Towns. The now-former Minnesota Timberwolves star officially said goodbye to the Wolves and the entire Minnesota area in a heartfelt social media post.

KAT’s nine-year journey with the Wolves came to an end, and with it, a new chapter begins as he now officially joined the Knicks.

In his post, KAT said, "To the Timberwolves Family: Nine years ago, I arrived in Minnesota as a young man with a dream. Little did I know that this place would become my home, and its people would become my family. Your love, support, and unwavering loyalty have fueled my journey and inspired me to be the best player I could be."

LeBron and Bronny Bring the Heat at Lakers Training Camp

LeBron said earlier this week there’s nothing left for him to accomplish, everything else is just “extra credit.” But wait, there is something new... and it’s going down at Lakers’ training camp.

On day two, the young gun Bronny went off in practice, hitting 3s over his dad. According to Anthony Davis, this led to LeBron dialing it up, bullying defenders, and going full King James mode to keep up with his son.

You can already feel the friendly competition brewing, and it’s giving us all the feels. And while we’re all waiting for the moment the James duo shares the court during a real game, it’s clear that practices are already delivering some unforgettable father-son moments. Could this be the ultimate James family season? We’re about to find out!

Dream Part Ways with Coach Tanisha Wright

After three seasons at the helm, Tanisha Wright is out as the Atlanta Dream's head coach. The Dream, who made the playoffs this year with a 15-25 record, couldn’t escape their first-round struggles. This year, they were swept by the New York Liberty, and last year, the Dallas Wings did the same.

Wright’s firing makes her the third WNBA coach to get the boot since the end of the regular season. LA’s Sparks parted ways with Curt Miller last month, and Teresa Weatherspoon was let go by the Chicago Sky shortly after.

The Dream haven’t had a winning season since 2018, but with another coaching change on the horizon, can they finally break the cycle?

Unrivaled League Continues to Stack Stars

In other WNBA news, Brittney Griner has just become the 24th player to join the Unrivaled Basketball league, an offseason 3-on-3 league founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier.

The new pro league is set to tip off in January 2025 and will feature some of the WNBA's top talent like Arike Ogunbowale, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark, and Chelsea Gray. Even UConn star Paige Bueckers is getting in on the action, thanks to an NIL deal signed earlier this year.

Unrivaled is set to be played exclusively in Miami over a 10-week period, with 30 players divided into six teams. For WNBA players who’ve traditionally gone overseas in the offseason to keep playing and supplement their income, Unrivaled could be the game-changing alternative right here at home.
